Ethanol Production by fermentation

Why do you choose this technology? Why not others?

Vegetable and fruit waste as its raw material are the highest proportion of food waste in TESCO (about 67% of total wet food waste). Therefore, the conversion of vegetable and fruit waste into chemicals is highly needed. Based on our literature research, vegetable and fruit waste can be converted into very useful chemical, which is ethanol. Its wide range of applications that has been explained above is the major reason why we chose this technology.

Comparing several biomass conversion processes, fermentation is the most applicable option to produce high conversion ethanol (about 85.5% conversion of ethanol).

Is it a sustainable technology? (eco socio environment)

This process is also environmentally friendly because it doesn’t produce any harmful substance and the process itself can be easily controlled. Furthermore, the target raw material is vegetable and fruit wastes because it accounts the highest proportion of food waste in market. Hence, this process could significantly reduces the amount of vegetable waste by converting it into beneficial chemical.

Is there any catalyst involved? What type? How much?

Yes, catalyst of this reaction is zymase.
