ESF 3110: Better Future: Promoting an Equal and Inclusive Labour Market

Paola Local Council is currently leading a project with local stakeholders (namely; Corradino Correctional Facilities, University of Malta, Malta College for Science and Technology and Paola Municipality, Italy). This project aims to enhance employability and productivity of inmates in the Corradino Correctional Facility, by providing a number of courses which prepares the inmate for re-integration after release. By increasing their academic and social skills through innovative courses and applied software, this project will contribute to the overall labour supply within the economy and improve social cohesion within Malta and Gozo.

INTERREG IV C: AT FORT

The ATFORT project is being led by Paola Heritage Foundation in collaboration with the Paola Local Council. The project targets the sustainable adaptive re-use of fortifications in Europe through the application of the Belvedere Principle. In the Paola case the Corradino Lines have been earmarked as a recreational park. The implementation stage is directed at the early phases of the management plan which has been compiled.

INTERREG IV C: HYBRID PARKS 

The Hybrid Parks project's key objective is to direct park development and management in a sustainable way with policies to mitigate climate change and thus developing public spaces to better serve economic, social and environmental purposes. For this project two areas have been identified which are Wied Blandun and Gaddafi Gardens. These are also within the KONNEKT project and the Heritage Trail and have been earmarked for regeneration as a 'Children's Garden' and 'Moorish Garden' respectively.

URBACT: REPAIR 

The Pjazza Paola Project has been one the main priority projects. It is a cardinal project within the Action Plan and refers to the regeneration of Pjazza De Paule. The square is centre point to the KONNEKT project which links the Corradino Lines to Hal Saflieni Temples. The project is at submission stage with a Design Brief, Management Plan and application in place. A democratization by design survey was commissioned in 2011 whereby citizens chose the best of three proposals.

PAOLA LOCAL COUNCIL ACTION PLAN

The Council's main aim is to improve and create new physical and social regeneration projects, as well as spur development through local heritage, tourism and cultural industries. Paola is a hub for new opportunities in transportation links, commerce and recreation. We will strive to revitalise living conditions and to promote regeneration in the area.
