INFO

I am Stephanie Kusano, an Engineering Education PhD candidate from Virginia Tech. I am completing my doctoral work under Dr. Adhitya Johri and Dr. Lisa McNair. I am also a workshop leader for the First-Year Engineering Program.

My journey to where I am now has been a pretty winding road. Following the footsteps of my two older siblings, I attended Virginia Tech to study Mechanical Engineering.  I earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering in May 2010.  For all four years of my undergraduate career, I was a proud member of the Marching Virginians’ clarinet section. I was also an undergraduate research assistant in the Center for Injury Biomechanics lab for the majority of my undergraduate career. Immediately after completing my bachelors degree, I then worked on a masters in BiomedicalEngineering. I frequently volunteered for STEM-initiative activities during my masters work, which allowed me to recognize my true passion for engineering education.

Beyond being a PhD student, I am also a wife, an aunt, a runner, and an avid reader. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart and best friend, Kris, who is a Research Associate in the VT Center for Injury Biomechanics lab. Adding to our little family in December 2013, we adopted our adorable puppy, Molly.
When I'm not working on my dissertation (rare as that might be), I love spending time with my family and babysitting my nieces and nephews whenever I have an available weekend. I am also probably one of the very few 20-somethings who genuinely looks forward to talking to her mom on the phone everyday. I have also become a runner after catching the running bug about 3 years ago. I successfully completed the 2014 Disney World Half Marathon, along with various other 5k and 10k races. And when I'm not doing any of the above things, you will probably find me with my nose in a book.

So, that's me in a nutshell! Please enjoy exploring my ePortfolio where you will find information about my academic career and myself. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments.
