Da Vinci - Advantages

99% of patients that have been operated on with Da Vinci have been discharged from the hospital the same day

Robotic surgery is proven to result in less pain/risk of infection

The first Da Vinci surgery was done in May, 2000 in Frankfurt, Germany. The first Da Vinci surgery in the U.S. was performed six months later in November 2000 in Richmond, Virginia

Based off of U.S. News & World Report's “Best Hospitals of 2009”, all the top ranked hospitals own at least one Da Vinci System

The Da Vinci’s HD, 3-D visual systems are so clear, you can see the weave of a suture thread

When operating, the surgeon receives “feedback” from the motors which can simulate a sense of touch

With the Da Vinci system, surgeons are not yet able to perform telesurgery (operating over long distances), although this is a possibility in the future.

The Da Vinci system is not “robotic surgery”. Instead, it is robot-assisted surgery-that means the surgeon is in control at all times

The DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) program Defense Sciences Project  inspired the Da Vinci system, although it is not yet used “on the battlefield”

Today, Intuitive Surgical is the leader in minimally- invasive surgery.
