Who should take BIO 102?

BIO 102 covers a broad spectrum of issues important for our society. The course aims at educating students to consider their choices in any arena of life from a holistic and ecological perspective. Students considering careers in the fields of agriculturehealth carehumanitieseducation, or business and economics will find this course useful and stimulating, because we will address issues surrounding: 

  • the human being as an ecological organism
  • human actions from an evolutionary perspective 
  • the relationship between human well-being and the environment
  • environmental health issues (i.e. health problems caused by something in the environment)
  • the value of ecological assets that do not have actual monetary values
  • the social issues caused by environmental damage

The focus is on drawing conclusions based on unbiased scientific assessment. Further, the course emphasizes scientific analysis and writing, which enhances critical analysis skills. Thus, this course will benefit anybody hoping to be a contributing citizen of the world by making responsible decisions based on critical analyses of the available information.
