A quickly arranged match after the scheduled league match versus Chester Le Street was cancelled so CLS could play a county cup match.  A late fitness test saw Channi Thompson back in the starting 11, and called up to the first team squad once again was  Jo Murray, Rachael Davison and Carina Mendes.

Channi slotted into midfield partnering Lizzie Randall and Amy Seagraves moved back outside to the right wing.

This game afforded Feds the chance to move into second place in the league as Hull had no game, and if Mossley Hill could beat Middlesbrough then Feds could go top, so the incentive was there for the ladies to get off to a good start.  However, it never, and on a heavy pitch Feds made it extremely difficult for them selves with a real lack of quality for passing and decision making.  The opposition's tactics of firing the ball into the feet of Nikki Burko their number 9 and then supporting her from midfield was pushing Feds back and having to defend deep.  Thankfully our defence was able to contain the attacks. On the stroke of half-time Lizzie Randall took a knock on the knee in a challenge and looked like she was needing to be subbed.  Lizzie came off and the referee blew for half time.

A few harsh words were said at half time.  A few technical notes issued and the girls came out for the second half more fired up.  Lizzie was fit to continue so no changes were made.

Feds came out with a more determined attitude for the second half and began to knock the ball around with more accuracy and quality.

However against the run of play,  along with a very poor refereeing decision saw Blackpool take the lead.   The ball got played into the keeper Natalie Cessford, who elected to clear long, however under a heavy pitch Nat's kick dropped short of midfield, but was collected by an attacker just outside the box, and controlled by her arm and hand.  Everyone but the ref saw this and the striker shot over Nat's head into the open goal.   After remonstrating with the referee and linesman the goal stood.

Feds began to dominate possession, and space was beginning to open up.  Abby Pope and Rosie Havelin were having more and more success down the left side and balls were being sent in, but the keeper had safe hands and was successful with catching a few.  Levi Wensley and Emily Douglas were working tirelessly to get in behind the defenders and were unlucky not to get shots off.

After 64 minutes it was time to make the first change. Channi made way for Rachael Davison who went into the wide right area and Amy Seagraves dropped into the centre with Lizzie Randall.

It was only a matter of time before Feds got the breakthrough, and uncharacteristically it was a mistake by the Blackpool goalkeeper that let Feds back in.   Rosie Havelin, found time and space as she drifted in field, and from 25 yards she smashed a low shot at goal.  The keeper  bent down to receive the ball but it squirmed through her hands and rolled into the net.

The Feds tails were up with fifteen minutes to go and all attacking play was coming from the Feds.   In the 80th minute Rachael Davison found her self running into the box and fired a shot off which the keeper saved.

Maddy Gresty was then subbed for Carina Mendes in the 84th as Feds were awarded a corner kick.  Blackpool loaded the box with players for the corner, and they failed to clear their lines only half hooking the ball away.  Up for the corner, supporting the attack was Lizzie Randall, who as the ball was half cleared caught the ball on the volley and looped the ball over the keeper into the far corner of the net.   A well deserved goal rewarded Feds for the sustained pressure.

2-1 Feds.

The last few minutes were dominated by Feds who were looking to get the ball in to Levi and Emily whenever possible, and it was a through pass in to Emily who advanced into the box before being felled by a Blackpool defender.    Emily stepped up to take the kick and calmly slotted the ball into the net to complete the scoring.

Final Score 3-1.

In summary it was not the prettiest of games.  Feds quality of play was poor in the first half, but showed a massive improvement in the second half.   Defenders Lynsey Longhurst and  Karen Quinn had kept Blackpool Wren Rovers' main player quiet giving her little time to settle on the ball and keep her chances to few and far between.   The success of this result took Feds into top spot in the league for the first time this season, and it is richly deserved having sustained an unbeaten run in league and cup for eleven games.
