Game Key Websites! Are they Legit? - 29th June 2014

Digital game key websites can be a brilliant thing with unbeatable prices, provided that you stick with the Legitimate ones. This guide is here to ensure that you follow a few basic rules, that can keep you safe when visiting 3rd party digital key stores. The types of potentially non-legitimate sites ,that you should or shouldn't avoid aswell as some other important things to look out for when browsing this market.

http://www.g2play.net/ also known as http://www.fast2play.com/

This website was bought by a larger company a few years ago, and since then (from my experiences), their customer service has gone out the window. For example, I bought more than one key from them, so they held back my order for 5 hours or so. They finally sent the keys after I sent them a couple of angry messages. Apart from this experience, the site seems relatively legit, with a huge game collection at marvellously low prices. Personally, I would opt for a different website over this one for your game keys. I also think its also better to support smaller companies than bigger corporations.

http://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/

In the past I have had some good experiences and rapid service from this website. Although some of their prices are a bit steep, they have an instant key sending service called “Autokey” which allows one to receive their key almost immediately after they buy it. I would highly recommend this website if you cannot find cheaper prices else ware. CJS is also one of the longest running digital key websites around.

http://www.directgamekeys.com/

Although things have changed for the better regarding this service, it had a history of selling stolen CD keys. I have no first hand experience of buying from this site, however many forum posts exist that talk about it. Here is one forum post: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1647686

Anyhow, because this is only based on rumor alone, I cannot, not recommend this site, as that would be wrong; but be wary anyway!

Keys4me (currently known as) http://www.gamingdragons.com/en

This was the very first digital key website that I used. In my opinion, it offers a more quality service than CJS and G2Play, with a more navigable interface and a vast collection of games. It's prices are in between that of CJS and G2Play. I recommend this service.

http://www.steamedkeys.com/

To be honest 100% honest here, I created this website, so it seems a little off balance for me to review it myself. However what I can say, is that Steamed Keys offers a faster key sending service than all previously mentioned websites, because it is based around the popular software e-junkie. Steamed Keys' game prices are in-between CJS and G2Play, and are lower than the other mention services. The only drawback of this service is that it is severely lacking in it's games collection a this stage. Steamed Keys offers VAT-free games which no other service offers, which is unique to us being Sole Traders; along with a no sign-up requirement, and integrated forums and blog.

http://www.cdkeyhouse.com/

This website is legit, but there is nothing particulaly special about it. It's front cover games have not been updated in what looks like 12 months. This may be something to watch out for. However, they seem to be having frequent sales, so you should always keep an eye on this site for the occasionalgood offer.

Important things to look out for:

Russian keys

Make sure that your CD key is not a Russian copy, as these have been known to deactivate in steam. Also steam does not allow these copies' languages to be change into English. Along time ago I bought a cheap Russian copy of Modern Warfare 2 and I encountered all of the above problems. That same game still exists in my steam library; totally unplayable :(

Region-Free

Make sure that the keys you buy are always Region-Free. This means that you can activate this game on steam in any location around the world. It also means that your game wont become unplayable If you move country.

Steer clear of Steam Gifts

Selling Steam Gifts is explicitly against Steam's Policies, and unless you would like your account banned, I highly suggest that you do not purchase these products from any website offering them for sale.

So to conclude... outside of the epic Steam sales, the key stores mentioned above seem to be offering a much better deal and provided that you avoid Russian, stick to Region-Free, and stay clear of Steam Gifts, I'm not sure that anything can really go wrong!
