NEWMEN advises us to "take our pleasures seriously" – and provides some sonic tools to crank up the endorphins. Founded in 2011, the five-piece band spins slivers of pop jungles, post-garages and neo-waves into intense but subtle indie grooves. In 2014 the band released their Debut-LP RUSH HUSH. The Album recombines the cold clarity of 1980s icons DAF with the epic noise of Velvet Underground or the synthetic meadows of David Bowie. A sound experience oscillating between kraut, sun and disco. A turn to a new realism of sound by serving the last century’s modern - where the 'Authentic' sings over reason, RUSH HUSH is pushing it to take a dive.
After the release a tour followed, supporting "Phantogram", "I Got You On Tape", "Young Rebel Set", "Claire" and "Tomas Barfod (Who Made Who). The album impressed the press:"NEWMEN are the hottest newcomer in musicbizz" the andy warhol interview mag wrote. The singles "Overboard" and "venus is a boy" got airplays on several radio stations all over the country.
In winter 2014 the band recorded a 5 track EP. The "Quick Millions EP" will be relesead on April 2015 on Fisherman Records. The journey continues: From rediscovered treasures to recent wave adoptions, from psychedelic dreams to African rhythms, from drone walls to Italian holidays, from NY muscle to B Düsseldorf: There is something about this mix, which you can’t put in an eclectic angle. It’s neither future nostalgia nor postmodern resignation. It’s something about the idea of contemporary music and how it should be. You could argue that contemporary is the opposite of something timeless and infinite. But who wants to live forever anyway?
