Seven ways to update your home’s look without major remodeling

The average cost to remodel multiple rooms in your home is approximately $37,000. Remodeling a home can be quite expensive. If you’ve been wanting a new look for you home but can’t afford the amount it will cost to do more extensive remodeling projects, then the following interior decorating ideas which won’t require any hired help may8 be the solution.

Accent pieces

Accent pieces are your furnishings that stand out the most. They’re the items that guests are going to ask you about. They usually have bolder colors, patterns, or textures designed to draw attention. When selecting accent pieces, follow your own sense of taste and don’t worry too much about how trendy something is. Also keep in mind that when selecting accent pieces, less is more. Too many and none of them will stand out. In addition to accent pieces, you might consider an accent wall. Instead of having all the walls in a space be a boring neutral color, make one stand out.

New window treatments

Replacing your window treatments is a cost effective way to update the look in a room because window treatments take up a lot of the visual space in any given room. They’re often a focal point of the room so this one upgrade can make quite a difference. If it’s a space that gets a lot of light, you might consider something light-blocking. If it’s a darker room, go with something light and airy so you have some privacy but also plenty of natural light.

Baseboard heater covers

Baseboard heater covers are another cost effective upgrade because they’re much less expensive than the cost to replace your baseboard heating system or tear it out completely. Baseboard heater covers are also easy to install so you can do this without having to hire anyone.

Make use of photographs

Thanks to the modern miracle that is smartphone technology, the tiny cameras they contain are capable of taking incredibly high quality photographs. Take advantage of that and print some of your favorite photos from family gatherings or vacations. Photographs cost only a few cents to print out and you can find frames for a few dollars. Even if you want to spring for some more expensive custom framing, it’s cheaper than buying artwork.

New rugs and/or comforter sets

The fastest and most cost effective way to change the look of a bedroom is a new comforter set and/or area rug since these two things usually take up the most real estate in the bedroom. Spend a little more for higher quality bedding and select a rug that’s comfortable underfoot and not just nice to look at.

Show a little love for your outdoor space

Don’t get so caught up on your home’s interior that you forget about the front and back porches. A new coat of paint for the front door, new shiny house numbers, hanging planters, and some new outdoor furniture won’t set you back too much and you can do it all in a weekend.

Decorate with plant life

If you’ve got a green thumb, consider buying some plants to display throughout your home. Plant life indoors has been proven to create feelings of calmness. They can also be very inexpensive depending on which kind you buy.
