PROJECT 01:   C-STRIP,   tu   delft,   netherlands

STUDENT: patrick   bedarf   &   dimitri   stefanescu

The C-Strip project is a urban insert within the TU Delft, University campus which utilises real-time interactive components as an integral part of the project. The project works with various computational design techniques such as agent based modelling, crowd simulation, wet grid simulation etc for the generation of context driven infrastructural solutions. These include interaction zones, education zones, workshop and entertainment zones etc. Sensing, actuation and control systems based knowledge is deployed for the generation of real-time deployable umbrella like structures, which interact with environmental conditions such as rain, sunlight, wind conditions etc. The overall structural makeup is thus made up of a mixture of generative voronoi system with a differential pattern, which combines the interactive structure as well as glass enclosures. A dynamic performance driven urban insert is thus produced.

PROJECT 02:   lambda,   tu   delft,   netherlands

STUDENT:  mariusz   polski

Lambda is a design research experiment which builds upon multi-agent system strategies to develop crowd flow and behaviour simulation for extracting an optimal infrastructural framework. The site is extensively mapped with regards to different demographics and user behaviour related movement patterns, which will navigate through the generated infrastructure. Programatic agent based simulations result in self-organisation patterns. These are subsequently interwoven with mathematical curve networks based upon inclination scenarios suitable for different activity patterns. A fully parametric logic for generating an integrated structure+skin solution while respecting performance requirements per activity. Visual relationships, infrastructural connectivity, sunlight penetration etc are some of the parametric relations which are addressed during the project process.

PROJECT 03:   the   darwin   project,   tu   delft,   netherlands

STUDENT:  leander   rispens,   lieneke   van   hoek,    Matas   Ubarevicius

The Darwin project, as the name suggests builds up on the logic of evolution. In this case, the issue of spatial evolution. The logic builds upon a carefully crafted strategy which analyses environmental concerns and yearly fluctuations of climatic conditions. These are reflected in ways in which architectural volumes can compress or expand in accordance with climatic data in order to save energy. Energy saving strategies vary from maximising surface exposure via skin expansion, or compressing volumes, which need to be heated up. A real-time interactive structural system was developed in order to achieve these spatial adaptation challenges. Computational design techniques such as parametric design, sensing, actuation and control protocols, kinetics and real-time data exchange etc are systematically realised. Information and material systems are thus systematically interwoven in order to create real-time adaptive spatial conditions.

PROJECT 04:   INFORMATION   HUb,   TU   DELFT,   NETHERLANDS

STUDENT:  KE   ZHANG

The information hub is a systematic experimentation in parametric design and complex geometry. The proposition builds upon agent based modelling and multi-layered simulation which interfaces environmental analysis, structural stability, sun light regulation, noise levels as well as flow of people. Topological optimisation plays a big role in the projects development, wherein generative structural logics and surface fluidity inform each other to negotiate and develop spatially novel conditions. Performance driven design scenarios further govern optimisation of facade conditions while at the same time ensuring multi-level connections between different programs. Topological continuity also governs democratic spatial usage scenarios, with equal opportunity for public-private participation.
