The Litter Picker.

Project: Litter picker (Focus: mechanisms, forces, system design)
Overview: Students will create a litter picker using hand tools, working with wood, plastic and metals 

Homework: Linked with class work, students are asked to independently research tools used in practical lessons. 
 

Learning: Develop students understanding of tools and processes in D&T through practical based theory. Develop students capability manufacturing techniques and processes and understanding of materials.  Students will develop a greater understanding of industrial manufacture techniques and machine tools. Students with understand the importance of forces, movements and material properties .

The Moisture detector.

Project: Moisture detector (Focus: Systems and control)
Overview: Students will create an electronic circuit using electronic components, soldering and etching equipment.
 

Homework: Linked with class work, students are asked to independently research tools used in practical lessons.
 

Learning: Develop students understanding of tools and processes in D&T through practical based theory. Develop students capability manufacturing techniques and processes and understanding of materials. Build on existing understanding of tools and process and develop a greater understanding of complex industrial manufacture, in particular electronic products. Students will understand how to develop and interoperate circuit diagrams, solder, manufacture a PCB and mass manufacturing of plastics. Greater understanding of systems and control.

Project: Structures (Focus: Types of structure, forces, properties of materials - Group project designed to mimic industry)
Overview: Students will build a working scale model of their teams bridge design. bridges to be tested to failure!! 

Learning: Develop students understanding of tools and processes in D&T through practical based theory. Develop students understanding of industrial design, environment, processes and manufacturing techniques. Greater understanding of forces, momentum and moments.
