x-files music

The x-Files theme music is a clear sign of how music can be made to a theme, and to give the audience a look at what it should be about. For example, the whistle is eerie with flying sources sounds in the background. The X-files music scared the audience, and parts of the theme music are used in the TV show itself. Composer Mark Snow made most of the music for this TV show and film, and his work made the X-Files what it is today.

Jaws music

Whilst the film was being made, the robot sharks made for the film broke whilst entering water. Because of this, the director Steven Spielberg had to add another layer to the film as the audience couldn't see the shark. Music composed by John Williams, it helped to add a layer of fear and helped to tell the audience when it was going to go wrong, and when the shark was going to attack. When the film was released in America, sea-side visits dropped to almost half because of the effect of the film. It was ironic because they only saw the shark when it was killed at the end.

Music in thrillers

How this will help

Music will be useful as it will give a sense of the movie, whether it's a theme tune or a hint to the audience of the tone of the movie at that time. I think that if used correctly, it will add to the experience of our film. This tells us from our research that we should avoid awkward silences in our film, unless it is done on purpose. The theme tune of Star Wars tells us that music can add to the immersive experience. If we do this correctly I believe this will highly improve the mark of our film.

studio thriller posters

independent posters

Independent films rarely have famous actors, but when they do they focus the film around them. This goes against the rules with independent films but it helps raise the awareness of the film itself, and normally only features one famous actor. An example of this is The Butterfly Effect with Ashton Kutcher, he is a famous American actor who featured in many different films and TV shows. But the poster does focus on him. Compared to my poster, I believe that I have tried to get actors out of the picture so I could focus on the mystery of the Joker card that was part of the mystery of the film.

How i made my independent poster

Independent films rely on the story rather than special effects or actors. They mainly have small budgets and do not have much money to make posters and trailers. They normally have plain backgrounds, and most of the time show a picture of an intriguing part of a film, for example Donnie Darko. The rabbit head is a key part of the story line, and you only truly understand it once you have watched the film.

How this will help

Knowing the difference between independent and studio films will help us to understand the style in which we want our film to be shot. this is useful as it will add to our marks as we will make particular choices which will add to the film's image as either independent or studio.

poster review

what makes posters interesting

Posters are a way of showing off the different people, events or type of your movie. Many genres have own style to their posters, which is partly a style of that genre, for example Star Wars often has different characters, villains, ships and fight scenes in their posters to give the audience a sneak preview of what's gonna happen next. Because the audience expects for violence and fighting to be in Star Wars, and because things like Death Star and spaceships and stormtroopers are expected, placing them on the poster would not give away the story, but merely add to people's excitement. And because the characters are so well known, such as Han Solo and Chewbacca, placing them on the poster will have the same effect. But, having the most important characters bigger than the less important ones, hints to the audience who is more important than the other, and this is why it's in the successful poster.

Another major factor of a poster is to display characters or actors within your film. This is done successfully in The Avengers, a Marvel produced film, that includes all the different superheroes from most of their films. This is successful in showing every single one of the actors and characters.

The Godfather is an independent film that was one of the most seen movies, and most successful of its time. But because they wanted it to be a serious film about the life of a man from boyhood to his 40s, shows him entering and leaving the Mafia crime family. There was not that much information they wanted to give away on the poster itself, so they simply have the head of the family smoking a cigar, and the title 'Godfather' connected to puppet strings. I believe this was a successful poster as it highlights the importance of a sneak preview of the entire movie and what to look forward to.

Extreme close up

Extreme close ups are often used to show tension among characterrs as the audience see in to their eyes (usually showing emotion or a reflection of something that the character is focusing on) this is used as a dramatic touch to what the character themselves are seeing, teh audience looking at both the character and the reflection would usually show countering emotions.

Birds eye view

Birds eye view is used in a movie to show the audience the overall surrounding of the character and what the world around them looks like compared to how small they are and what their problems are to the rest of the area around them, mostly used to create contrasts between size of character and setting

SOUND EFFECTS IN MEDIA

The sound presented here shows major suspense as both characters run away from a deserted tribe.

At one point the non-diegetic suspense sound stops so you are able to listen to the running footsteps of the characters and the brushing of the trees.

The sound then returns with a higher tempo as another character enters a volcano.

The sound  changes  constantly   here  between  the loud  non-diegetic  sounds  with  the  burning sounds  of  the  volcano.

The drumming, violin and trumpet sound presented in this scene shows the seriousness of this scene.

Piartes of the carribean is very well known for its supberb soundtrack and sound effects.

In this fight scene between will and jack the scene is introduced by the digetic sounds of both characters touching different objects and moving through the smith, there foot steps are also heard to show the pace at which the characters are in.

as the figth begins classical music in the back ground starts to pick up whilst the digetic sounds of the interaction between the characters remains but what is mostly heard is the clashing of swords and the conversation between the characters making the audience feel that their confrontation is picking up in seriousness.

The classicle music is continuous through out the entire movie and is used in differnt aspects of the film but for this scene it is heard as very low tempo in order for the audience to focus more on the voices of the characters and  the clashing swords since this is a very small figth scene rather than a big one which is scene alter on.

Audience appeal to the imitation game

The Imitation Game is a drama thriller set during the Second World War, from 1940 to 1941. The main character is asked to break an unbreakable German code called the Enigma. This film would appeal to many types of people, the genre of the film is set during the Second World War, so it would appeal to those that are interested by this period, or study or have read about the war, because the film itself gives an interesting look on the Second World War. The trailer shows the two main actors in the film, Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley. These two famous actors have a following of fans who watch all their films.

audience appeal to domino

Domino is a story about American bounty hunters and the life of one girl, and how she joined them. She's being interviewed by a police officer, where she's telling this story. This will appeal to those that are interested in crime thrillers, as throughout the film it includes guns, violence and a new look on American life. The main actress is Keira Knightley, and she has a following that would help the film gain more watchers. The film gives a new look at the working class in America, and in America bounty hunter documentaries are popular, so this is another factor why they would get a large audience.

Audience appeal to star trek

The Star Trek fandom has a large audience and is established its own group known as 'Trekkie'. This means that even more people are attracted to the genre than a normal Sci-fi film, but it is also shown as an action film and a Sci-fi film so it appeals to the normal groups too. This is why it's one of the most successful genres with the audience and why the sequels do so well.
