Music Box Automata

Spring 2011:    Design  and  Prototyping

For the course ME155 Design and Prototyping, taught by professor Lima, Andrew Novak, Mark Lee, and I, designed and built a music box.  The music box satires a former professor at the Cooper Union known by the nickname “Kondo.”  As the story goes, he was a notoriously difficult math professor at Cooper who left to work as an economic minister in Greece.  When the Greek economy began to feel the effects of the financial crisis “Kondo” received much of the blame.

In the video of the music box, Kondo enters into a class room just as a student raises his hand.  Upon seeing Kondo head on, however, the student drops his hand in fear.  Meanwhile, the euro can be seen to be gaining value in Greece.  It too drops as soon as Kondo enters.

The video is not meant to comment on the validity of any accusations, it is merely a depiction of a story that has spread throughout Cooper
