Back Scratcher

Fall 2009:  Engineering  Design  Course

For the Engineering Design class EID103 Mark Lee, Matthew von der Lippe, and I made a back massage and scratch chair.  The goal of the class was to design a device to help assist the elderly and handicapped.  In that vein we chose to design a back scratcher that would allow the user to pinpoint a specific spot on their back using only their hand (via a control panel).

The chair was built on a very large scale to accommodate users of all sizes.  The control panel, located on the right hand side, had two separate switches for the up-down and left-right motion.

The up and down motion was achieved using a much larger threaded rod and a drill.

The left to right motion was achieved with a threaded rod and an electric screw driver.
