As you might guess from its name, digital marketing refers to any type of marketing that is done using digital technology. There are a number of different types of marketing that fall under this general umbrella including the following:
Social Media Marketing. This involves using social media agency sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram or Google+ to connect with and engage customers.
Banner Advertising. This type of marketing involves placing banner advertisements on websites with the hopes that visitors will click them.
Pay-per-click Marketing. Also known as PPC marketing, this marketing technique involves paying for keyword-based advertisements through the search engines.
Email Marketing. This process involves marketing directly to customers through email. Typically customers opt into the mailing list in order to start receiving messages and can unsubscribe at any time. Sending unsolicited messages via email is spam and is another topic altogether.
Article Marketing. This style of marketing involves writing articles on a particular topic and then including a link to the author's site or a related product in the bio box at the end of the article. Links to products, services or websites can also be included within the text of the article itself. These articles can either be posted to article directories or can be published on blogs or other websites.
Search Engine Optimization. SEO refers to the process of getting a website listed as high as possible in the search results for keywords related to the content of the site. This allows the site to harness a large percentage of organic traffic for the industry.
Mobile Marketing. This type of marketing involves reaching out to customers through their smartphones and mobile devices. Again, like email marketing, customers typically must subscribe to a mobile marketing list before they start receiving messages.
There are many other styles of digital marketing out there, but these are some of the most popular.
