Artist Statement

My sculptural ceramics mimic the asymmetry of organic forms. I create my pieces with pliable earthenware slabs, allowing the unpredictable effects of gravity to alter my work. I am inspired by the wabi-sabi spirit of creation, as I seek an appealing irregularity in my forms. My pieces have a whimsical presence, as I create sculptures that appear soft and clumsy. I use bright glazes on my ceramics, reflecting my work in abstract painting. My sculptures serve as a three-dimensional canvas for experimentation in surface design.
