Biography

English Grant is a fine art photographer born and raised in South Carolina.  She currently lives in Rock Hill where she is a candidate for a B.F.A. with a concentration in commercial photography from Winthrop University.  She has a keen interest in psychology, which resonates in her work. Her images are made along the pathways that she travels every day. By using little or no lighting equipment she manipulates pre-existing light and color to recreate surreal scenes that she sees inside her head. Her photographs offer an intimate look into her life. The portraits of her and her loved ones are meant to be viewed through her eyes. She strives to push the boundaries of the ordinary so that each image is something wholly unique and unexpected.

Artist Statement

In this narrative series I created wardrobe and props solely out of packing materials to simulate the landing of an extraterrestrial being. Taken in my backyard with nothing but a street lamp to light the scene, I effectively captured a desired surreal quality. The metallic photographic paper elevates the vibrancy of the colors and is typical of our common perception of alien décor. The decision to display these images unframed was based on the idea of a limitless universe.
