Artist Statement

A mug touches your lips, a plate or bowl provides the landscape for nourishment.  Handling and touching my functional ceramic pieces should be personal and comfortable since they are formed with the experience of the user in mind.  They are animated and move or flow similar to the human figure and sometimes resemble the body directly. My art is not complete unless it is experienced and shared. At the same time, my sculptural pieces have given me a chance to study and explore the movement and flow of clay outside my comfort zone of functional ceramics. Sculpture is a study of constructing forms in a new and exciting way.
