Artist Statement

My work is the result of a generation living second-hand lives. As children we learned more about the world from screens than actually going into the world and experiencing it. Children going to public schools in the 90s were often given informational videos to watch by their teachers and guidance counselors, many of which include faulty or questionable information. I include clips from these as well as many other old found videos to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Other clips are then juxtaposed with these. The pieces are to be viewed as a painting would be, as there is not always a narrative

within a video. One can come and go and not feel as if they have missed anything or need to be caught up.
