Pooley Bridge to Howtown

9 Miles Grade 3

Leader: Lynda Lowthion

Report & Photos by Lynda Lowthion

As they say if at first you don,t succeed try again..and that is what I did today, and had a good turn out of 16, We all gathered at Pooley Bridge and headed along the lake shore in good walking weather and through the Water Side Camp site, walking along the road for a short way and crossed over to Cross Dormont, and then headed onto Howtown not losing anyone on the way. Had our lunch by the Lake Shore at Howtown. We had a vote on who wanted to walk on or catch the steamer and the eldest member of the party said walk on.  John had left his pole at the picnic stop and had to retrace his steps whilst we waited at Howtown Hotel, where I had taken upon myself to advertise the fact there was an outside toilet, after ten or so had used the facilities a member of staff came out to point out what we already knew that it was for patrons only, so that is another coffee stop off the list!

Over the top via Barton and Askham Fell for the last 5 mls the weather by now was very muggy we  arrived back in Pooley Bridge ready for refreshments at Granny Dowbekin's Tea Shop, by this time we has lost Tony, and here he was like Billy no Mates in the cafe all alone, whilst the rest of us were in the gardens.

Thanks for all turning out we had lovely views and conversations.
