Glendinning

Leaders: Nancy & Ken

Report by Nancy McLure

We gathered at the Kilngreen car park and prepared to set off to Bentpath and the single track road to Telford's birthplace waiting for David who thankfully drove in, complete with boots, just as we were departing! We reached the isolated car park without incident and split into our two groups. Seven came with me to do the C walk and a goodly number went on the B walk with Ken who was sporting an appropriate tee shirt. The C walkers braved the rickety bridge and reached the isolated house, Corlaw, seeing only Stan, the postman in his van who looked surprised to see so many people! We lunched beside the forest track and walked to the bothy called Greensykes taking care not to lose David or Tony on the way. The forest walk was noted for its amazing variety of mosses and also the tiny trees growing on and along the track. The B party caught up with us at Greensykes and Ken was as shocked as me to find litter left by the last occupants. The B party had some lunch at the bothy while the Cs set off to enjoy the open track back to Glendinning. Some of the party visited the Telford cairn erected in 2007 to mark the 250th anniversary of "Laughing Tam's" birth before we headed back to the Muckle Toon for refreshments. Sadly this was not a pleasant experience for all and I have decided to ask the Buccleuch Centre if they will extend their opening hours for us the next time we have a walk in Langholm. Thanks to all who came on the walks for their great company.
