Kendal Circular

9 Miles Grade 3

Leader: Graham Bell

Report & Photos by Heather Perrin

Fourteen of us set out from Kendal on a breezy and cloudy morning including two new members; welcome! We walked along the river Kent on a good path, through Scroggs Wood, crossed the A591, went through a tunnel, passed Helsington Manor and onto the church. A fine building, we went in to have a look and mention must be made of the stained glass window and decorated wall. I would like to say we emerged into sunlight but sun was sadly lacking today. We headed north up the limestone escarpment of Scout Scar after stopping for lunch. The winds picked up force and we sheltered in The Mushroom, an intriguing stopping point; more like a bandstand than a shelter with the views and hills written round the edge.  Onto Cunswick Scar, then dropping down south east on green paths onto Kendal Fell, across the golf course, into Kendal and the teashop.  A splendid walk and a big thank you to Graham for leading us.
