Report & Photos by Alison Smith

A great forecast brought out 19 in all to Caldbeck for a lovely walk through wonderful countryside.  Graham reported that spring had most definitely sprung since his recce with some huge rhubarb type plants  - one of the photos is just of a white cap amongst the rhubarb, in fact this was Colin who was almost completely hidden by these giants, nettles also much in evidence, which was worrying for those of us in shorts, me especially.  We passed around a lovely field of barley, it had ears with hairs so I am reliably informed that that it was barley as opposed to wheat.  Tony treated us to the sound of a cuckoo and also identified other birds by their song.  Lunch was takien in the grounds of Sebergham church, which a few of us took the opportunity to inspect.  We walked up gentle inclines, through lovely grassy fields and little wooded areas, on roads, alongside the river bank and of course through some muddy patches!!

A great and informative walk, enjoyed by all and rounded off by refreshments at Priests Mill.  Thanks Graham
