PROJECT FOR AN OFFICE BUILDING WITH LOW-ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT IN MESSINA - ITALY

A.Y. 2012/2013

The project is oriented to achieve critical knowledge through the optimization process, considering fundamental factors which weigh on building quality: human factors (comfort condition), climate forcings (energy performances of the building), environmental context (mitigating/enhancing effect on climate forcings), technological potentiality (technological performances to achieve building quality), building management and maintenance.

The climatic context in which the building stands let us make choices aimed primarily at finding solutions for cooling , to achieve comfort conditions and the reduction of energy consumption.

A cable compartment, from the ground floor to the roof, was designed to perform as a ventilation duct: the air enters in the building through a wind exposed area , whereas its expulsion is provided thanks to the chimney effect, through the openings at the top.

An extensive green roof system was chosen for the considerable advantages that this solution involves: Temperature of the roof of about 20° against the 40-60° achieved with a normal paved cover, resulting in thermal insulation and protection of structures from temperature changes; Acoustic filter  ; Excellent environmental impact; great heat capacity, enhance building thermal inertia.
