Face to face
art and history project for youth 14 years of age and older
Our project face to face aims to create a forum on which young people can explore the concept of Human Rights, establish their own independent vies on the subject and share their opinion with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds through art exhibitions and online.
During workshops which can be organized in Hania, Crete in cooperation with volunteers of the association Young Citizens of the World in English, Greek or German, the participants are being exposed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as it was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, its thirty articles and its preamble, as well as to critical lines of thought to the subject, for example by Hannah Arendt, Ernest Gellner, Edward Said and Mark Mazower.
Furthermore, an artist in residence will support the participants in exploring the history of the portrait / the self portrait in the European cultural context, and in investigating diverse ways of creating their own self portraits.
