The first four meets of the Track season have been received with unmatched optimism and camaraderie. Every subsequent track meet is in no short supply of new “PR’S” and in some cases, new school records.  Additionally, the Bruins have also succeeded in maintaining their high rank in the state.  This is due to the talent and chiseled ability that Cedaredge’s athletes have demonstrated in all events of the sport of track.

After landing a whopping second place in the 3A state-wide rank, Austin Williams unbelievably managed a mere sixth place in the state competition. With an unprecedented surge of motivation and dedication, Austin then buckled down and began hard at work to ensure his next seasons success. His hard work shows this season as Austin has not only landed a shot-put mark that places him first in the state in all classifications, but also secured the school record in both throws while having an undefeated season. Austin is once again upholding the standard in the throws.

The girls have again shown dominance in their relays as well. This year the Lady Bruins have again succeeded in landing the top ranking in the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays for 3A track. Kendall McHugh also has top ten ranks in both the hundred-meter dash and the long jump. The 400-meter dash is also covered with Mackenzie Kehmeier and Nellie Freeman who are both ranked top ten in the state. The high jump is another successful event as Kenzie Henderson and Shane Gates have climbed their way to top ten ranks in the state.

The Bruins recently hosted their first home track meet of the season on Saturday March 29th. For the first time in the season, Cedaredge’s athletes had propitious weather with little wind in the afternoon and clear skies through the day. The girl sprinters started the day on a high note with Kendall McHugh taking 5th in the hundred while Summer Herman took fourth scoring a combined ten points for the girls. Mackenzie Kehmeier took third in the 400m-dash and the girls 4x100m relay took first. Kaitlyn Kissner and Micaela Shaw took first and second in the discus.

On the boy’s side, Logan Cronebaugh took seventh in the 300m hurdles and Shane Gates took third. The boy’s 4x400m relay took third for a new season best time. Shane also took fifth in the high jump.

The Cedaredge invitational gave its athletes much needed weather to maintain success through the middle of the season. Now its up to the Bruins to continue to improve while staying healthy and mentally focused to prepare them for the much awaited state track meet.
