Nutrition is the science of food and the processes by which the organism ingests, digests, absorbs, transports, utilizes and excretes food substances. Food is material consisting of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and other substances (minerals, vitamins and enzymes) that are essential for an organism to sustain growth, repair, and to furnish energy for all activity of the organism.
Proteins are essential for all living things (animal and vegetable) and must be included in the diet to sustain life. You can get everything you need from proteins, energy, growth and repair, and maintain homeostasis.
Carbohydrates of which there are three types – fiber, starches and sugars – compounds that living things use for energy only. Lipids (fats) are principle structural components of living cells. Lipids give energy and grow and repair the organism.
