Dreaming with open eyes...

Hey there book lovers!! These are some of the thoughts I had while reading Deliverance by CJ Redwine.

  • YOU ARE CRASHING MY EXPECTATIONS!! STOP IT OR I’LL DIE!

I really was enjoying this trilogy… until I started reading the third book. Not that I hated it, but… it was not as good as I expected. I read Defiance, and I really liked it (you can see the review here), I read Deception and I absolutely loved it, out of the three books it was my favorite by far. So I said If Defiance was good, and Deception was excellent, Deliverance must be PERFECT” and, sadly, it was not.

  • I DON’T LIKE THIS. I NEED TO FINISH IT TO END MY SUFFERING.

I found it hard to concentrate on the story (which doesn’t happen to me often! And I DO NOT like it when I don’t like books) like I wasn’t caught from the very beginning and you know, like I wasn’t feeling the story, I was just reading it so that I could finish the book and I could grab another one. (sounds rude but it’s the truth.) I read more than half of the book this way, but I did enjoy some parts anyway.

  • I NEED ACTION!

I found annoying that almost all along the book the characters just thought of ways to get free, to defeat someone, etc. I mean, come on! Less thinking and more doing! While I understand that Logan’s characters is known for making plans, and thinking every movement twice before doing it, I believe that they should have planned less and done more, I mean, even Rachel, who is known for doing things without thinking of the consequences, made plans and did nothing. I appreciate that they thought about everything so that they didn’t get into trouble and my beloved characters didn't die, but I felt that too little was being done. As for me, the entire book was about how the characters planned ways to finally be safe and the last seven chapters were about how they actually did what they had planned.

  • WHERE THE F*CK IS QUINN?

Quinn is my favorite character after Willow, and all along the book he followed Rachel and tried to rescue her once (while she was kidnapped). On the previous two books Quinn was a main character, with an important role in the story, whereas in Deliverance he was kind of absent, he didn’t do much until the very end. I love Quinn and not seeing him actively participate made me furious.

  • I LOVE YOU WILLOW. I WANT YOU TO BE MY FRIEND.

As I said above, my favorite character is Willow, I love her. She is badass and knows how to defend herself fighting but also by talking to people. Willow is funny and she made me laugh even in the moments when something emotional happened.

IF YOU HAVEN’T READ DELIVERANCE YET DON’T READ WHAT IS IN BLUE.

KEEP SCROLLING DOWN UNTIL IT’S SAFE!!!

SPOILERS AHEAD.

An example of this would be when, at the very end, Logan meets his father for the first time and Frankie statrs sobbing:

“When logan lets go, Marcus is smiling, though tears are in his eyes. Logan smiles back, and beside me, Frankie sniffs.

“Are you crying?” Willow asks, her voice incredulous.

“Maybe.” Frankie glares at her.”

SPOILERS ARE OVER.

YOU CAN KEEP READING NOW!

I don’t think that quote shows even an inch of how hilarious and awesome Willow is, I guess you’ll have to read the book to understand my feelings…

  • CONNOR YOU ARE SO COOL. THANKS FOR SHOWING UP.

Connor is a new character in the trilogy, and let me say he is absolutely awesome (third fave character!). He uses a formal language most of the characters don’t understand (and I think this is cute, like HE HAS A BRAIN). Also, he loves books. HE LOVES BOOKS. HE LOVES BOOKS LIKE WE DO. I love that he loves books.

  • OMG THAT ENDING

I didn’t enjoy great part of the book but I have to say that the ending was pretty good, it was, indeed, full of action (which is something I love) I couldn’t stop turning the pages because soo much was going on!!! At the time I read the ending I was having breakfast, and I was so thrilled I couldn’t stop eating my lemon pudding (because I wanted to know if they were going to live

  • WE FOUND LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLACE.

I ship Logan and Rachel for a whole lot of reasons that I won’t tell because it would be an endless list, I love them together, I think they form a very good couple because each of them have qualities the other doesn’t and, you know, BALANCE. BALANCE IS GOOD. But they were not the only ones in love! Willow also found love, Quinn did too, and many other characters as well! I am so happy for them all.

  • SO PROUD OF YOU. MY BABY CHARACTERS FINALLY GREW UP.

I think this book was all about Character Development. In the previous books we would see the characters struggle and grieve over their pasts, we would see them seeking for revenge, in Deliverance these changes. The characters start seeking for justice, not just revenge, they keep being sad over their pasts but they learn how to keep going. As the characters grow and learn, their personalities become richer and it is nice to see how their relationships change, they go from being just allies to being friends, family, some even fall in love with each other!

This book was not as good and special as I thought it would be, but I did enjoy the heart-wrenching and sparkling moments a lot. I liked the trilogy a lot as a whole, therefore, I thoroughly recommend the Defiance Trilogy by CJ Redwine to anyone who likes fantasy and dystopia.
