2001: An Ummagumma Odyssey

Ummagumma (1969) with 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - Discovered by Dreamx

This uses the track listing of the US cassette release.  Fortunately it works if you just use the cd tracks and properly arrange them.  The track listing is as follows:

1. "Astronomy Domine"

2. "The Narrow Way: Parts I, II, III"

3. "Grantchester Meadows"

4. "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict"

5. "Sysyphus: Part I, II, III, and IV"

6. "The Grand Vizier's Garden Party: Part I: Entrance, Part II: Entertainment, and Part III: Exit"

Evidence:

-Roger Waters said his "greatest regret" was that Pink Floyd didn't do the soundtrack for 2001: A Space Odyssey

Umma Gigi?

Ummagumma (1969) with Gigi (1958) - Discovered by Andrew Wendland

Start the album as the MGM lion starts to fade out.

Evidence:

-On the cover of Ummagumma you can see a record on the floor to the left of each person.  The record is the soundtrack to the film Gigi.  This suggests that the album is also a 'soundtrack' to the film.

Umma Psycho

Ummagumma (1969) with Psycho (1960) - Discovered by Baker B.

Start the studio album at the opening scene of the movie.

Evidence:

-On the front of ummagummas studio version you see a picture of the band with a picture on it and so on that looks like a mirror in front of a mirror that procedes into infinite. On the cover (front) of Ummagumma ('live' version) is a picture of some roadies, all Pink Floyds instruments and their van. On the back of the 'live' version is the same picture, but backwards. Like looking at the front picture in a mirror. In the movie Psycho Alfred Hitchcock put a lot of reflectable devices, like; windows, a womans compact mirror and other things. ( http://www.filmsite.org/psyc.html visit for review).

-The word, "Psycho" is said at 49 seconds into the song, 'Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave and Grooving With a Pict.'

Sysyphus vs The Hill

Ummagumma (1969) with The Hill (1965) - Discovered by me 7/10/15

Start the studio album at the opening scene of the movie, of the man climbing the hill.

Evidence:

- "In Greek mythology Sisyphus (/ˈsɪsɪfəs/;[1] Greek: Σίσυφος, Sísyphos) was a king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). He was punished for chronic deceitfulness by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, repeating this action forever."  The film appears in the "See also" section of the Wikipedia entry.

Ummagumma Overview

Ummagumma was released in 1969 as a double album; one part live and the other made in the studio.  Each band member (Four of them) had half a side on the studio album for their own compositions.

The word "ummagumma" is supposedly Cambridge slang for copulation.  The front cover of the studio album was designed by Hipgnosis.  It mainly features a droste effect, which is a picture within itself, within itself and so on.  It also has the film Gigi's soundtrack.  "At a talk given at Borders bookstore in Cambridge on 1 November 2008, as part of the "City Wakes" project, Storm Thorgerson explained that the album was introduced as a red herring to provoke debate, and that it has no intended meaning." (Wikipedia link)  A red herring is a distraction / false lead.  This brings up some interesting questions.  What would the inclusion of the Gigi album be trying distract one from?  Distracting people from thinking the album syncs with the film?  If that's the case, how did they know about synchronicities?
