The Dark Side of the Rainbow

The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) with The Wizard of Oz (1939) - Discovered by unknown

Start the album as the MGM lion fades.  Keep repeating until movie ends.

Evidence:

-In the Pulse eye (which is a storm), there are numerous images, such as a bell, some clockwork, as well as a bike.  This could refer to the song by Pink Floyd, but it isn't on the album.  Also, there is a little girl wearing what looks to be a blue dress and red shoes.  This may refer to See Emily Play, but again, the song doesn't appear on the album.  Why add them?  Again note that both the bike and girl are in the 'eye of the storm'.  The Dark Side of the Moon is played in it's entirety on the Pulse album.

-The rainbow throughout the original vinyl artwork not only refers to the Rainbow Theater, but also to the song in the movie Somewhere Over the Rainbow, as well as the film beginning in sepia (lacking color), transitioning into color, then back into sepia (white light turning into rainbow, then back into white).

-The picture of the pyramids in the artwork is colored green which refers to the Emerald City.

-The Police song Synchronicity I seems to refer to this sync; "With one breath(e), with one flow, you will know, synchronicity.  A sleep trance, a dream dance, a shared romance, synchronicity."  The first part is talking about the album, with Breathe being a song on it, while the latter part is referring to the movie.  Dorothy is knocked unconscious and dreams, which includes dancing.  It's a film loved by many.  See https://web.archive.org/web/20001002072345/http://camel.4mg.com/

The Dark Side of a Space Odyssey

The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) with 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - Discovered by me mid 2014

Start the album as "The Dawn of Man" fades in.

Evidence:

-The album was temporarily named "Eclipse".  The cover of the album depicts light passing through a prism.  The blackness represents space, while the prism, or triangle, represents the monolith eclipsing the sun.

-An early mix of The Great Gig In the Sky had a more 'spacey' theme, with audio from the Apollo 17 mission instead of Clare Torry’s singing.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdKRWSWhA28

-The film that was played during the tour for the album contains numerous references to the movie.  https://vimeo.com/80728175

-The whole thought of this sync came to me after watching a video by Other Lives - For 12.  You can't watch that and not see the refrences between the movie and album.

The Dark Side of the Moon Overview

The Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973.  The album was temporarily named Eclipse after having found out Medicine Head had named their recent album The Dark Side of the Moon. After their album was found to be a commercial failure, Pink Floyd retook the original title.  The themes on the album include conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness, which was partly inspired by Syd Barrett's mental state.  This is one of the best selling albums worldwide, remaining in the charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988.  It has an estimated 50 million copies sold.  The album was engineered by Alan Parsons (of Alan parsons Project) The album art was designed by Storm Thorgerson, longtime friend of the band and member of Hipgnosis.  The cover features light passing through a prism, splitting into the colors of the rainbow (missing indigo) which represents the band's stage lighting, the album lyrics, and Wright's request for a "simple and bold" design.  The spectrum of light, on the vinyl release, continues from the front, into the middle of the gatefold, onto the back, which then continues back onto the front.  A continuous cycle, much like the heartbeat in the beginning and end of the music.
